Significant progress in the formation of the Geldrop-Mierlo municipality

The coalition talks in Geldrop-Mierlo have made significant progress over the past week. The GL/PvdA, DGG, DPM, CDA, D66, and Wij zijn GM/VVD political groups have reached agreement on a wide range of issues regarding the new Comprehensive Council Program for 2026–2030.

Agreements have also been reached regarding the chapter on administrative cooperation and administrative culture. In this chapter, the parties describe how they intend to work together as the council, the executive board, and the organization in the coming years, and how they plan to strengthen their connection with residents. Agreements have also been reached regarding professional conduct and the manner in which the parties intend to collaborate with one another.

The parties are expected to reach full agreement on the substance of the matter in the near future. Next week, the entire text will be discussed in detail, and further discussions will take place regarding the financial implications.

In parallel with the substantive discussions, the parties providing aldermen have been discussing the composition of the new municipal executive and the allocation of portfolios. Significant progress has been made in this area as well.

The new council will consist of four aldermen. This fulfills the previously expressed desire for a smaller and more decisive administration. The screening process for prospective aldermen has now begun.

According to the coalition negotiators, the process demonstrates that, despite differences in policy, the parties are working together constructively to establish a stable municipal government.

“The openness, mutual respect, and positive atmosphere in which the discussions are taking place inspire confidence for the coming term,” said coalition negotiators Lex Janssen and Paul van Liempd.

It is expected that the coalition negotiators will be able to complete their task by June 1.
