Sewer clogging

What is it?

  • The municipality must provide maintenance of the public sewer system.
  • You are responsible for the sewer system on your own property.

Sewer clogged

If the sewer at your place is clogged then you or the municipality must fix the clog.

  • If the cause is on municipal land, the municipality must fix the problem and the municipality pays the cost.
  • If the cause is on your own land, you must fix the problem yourself and pay the cost yourself.

First, try to determine for yourself where the problem is. Ask your neighbors if they have the same problem. Then contact one of our regular sewer companies they may also perform work on municipal property.

What to do.

Take a close look at who you are doing business with!

If the sewer is clogged, a sewer unclogging company often has to be called in to solve the problem. Currently, there are companies operating that charge high fees for this afterwards (up to €800). These companies sometimes appear at the top when you search on Google for a company that can solve the clog. The website usually only lists a phone number and no address or other contact information.

A sewer blockage is often annoying enough. To prevent you from also being faced with high costs, the municipality advises you to contact one of the trusted companies the municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo works with in case of a clog. Moreover, these companies may solve the clog if it turns out that it is on municipal land.

You make your own arrangements with the company about the work and the costs you have to pay (see What does it cost?).

Note: If you hire a plumbing company other than the one mentioned above, the cost will be at your own expense.

What does it cost?

If you have a sewer problem fixed through the companies listed, the location of the clog in the sewer determines who pays the cost. If a clog or other sewer defect is located in your home or between the unblocked area and your home, then regardless of the cause, you will pay the cost. If there is no blockage, then the cadastral boundary applies.
