Incentive scheme for facade improvement
What is it?
In the note "Centrum Geldrop een plek met hart, ontwikkelingsvisie" the vision has been formulated of how the bottlenecks observed in the Centrum area of Geldrop could be tackled. The goal is to eventually have a shopping area where it is a pleasure to store, where it is good to be and where people can continue to meet each other. The goal is a shopping area that is easily accessible, where there are good facilities for walkers, cyclists and motorists. At the same time, we want to cherish the cultural-historical achievements in the shopping area and, if possible, emphasize them more.
To achieve the goals in the shopping area and give the area a better image, making the existing shopping area more attractive is an important task.
The way one experiences a center is determined by aspects such as its historical or modern character, the diversity of stores, and especially by facades and advertisements. It is a fact that beautiful and well-maintained facades benefit the center. It also increases the experience value of consumers, causing them to stay longer in the center and spend more in stores and restaurants. Moreover, a beautiful facade is the entrepreneur's business card.
There is a common interest in making the shopping area attractive. The municipality would therefore like to investigate the possibilities for façade improvement together with the entrepreneur/property owner and his advisor. Informing, motivating and facilitating are key concepts to stimulate individual initiatives and that is why this Incentive Scheme has been drawn up.
The purpose of the grant is to improve the quality of architecture and the appearance of buildings in public spaces. An amount of €300,000.00 was included in the multi-year budget for this scheme, of which €220,000 has now been used.

How does it work?
The municipality wants to improve the quality of the facades by listening to the entrepreneur's ideas, looking at the existing facade and the original design of the building. The amendment proposal for the facade, including advertising and awnings, will be tested against the Image Quality Plan Centrum Geldrop and the Advertising Policy Centrum Geldrop and the implementation rules for terraces in the center of Geldrop.
This Incentive Scheme is only applicable in the shopping area of downtown Geldrop and, for now, ends when the total available budget has been used.
