If you have spare time and enjoy helping others, you can volunteer. Volunteer work is work for which you do not receive any money. For example, you could be a hostess in a hospital, help out at a school or go for walks with the elderly. You can also become active in associations; for example, you might have a board position in a senior citizens' association or drama club.

Unemployed

The municipality supports and encourages volunteering. It is good for yourself and those around you. It can also be a step towards a paid job. You gain more self-confidence, for example. You learn things that are also useful for a job. Volunteering looks good on your CV. You show what you can do. And that you are active. This is important if you do not have a job. Maybe you will get a paid job through your volunteer work?

Have you been unemployed for a long time? If so, you may be asked to do something in return for your benefits. This is called a quid pro quo. The work you do must be good for society. So it is a bit like volunteer work. If you already do volunteer work, you may not have to do anything in return. Ask at the CMD where you can volunteer and sign up.

Helping someone from time to time

Would you like to help someone from time to time? Check out the online marketplace VoorelkaarinGeldrop-Mierlo. It is similar to Marktplaats.nl but for Health and welfare. You can also look at the website of the LEVgroep. Often associations, clubs, community centers and care organizations need volunteers. Ask there if you can help. An overview can be found in the municipal magazine.
