Campaign Together for a Safe Neighborhood launched
On Nov. 4, the municipality launched a campaign on drug labs and hemp farms. With the campaign "Together for a safe neighborhood" residents and entrepreneurs are made aware of this form of undermining crime. What signals can you look out for? And how can you report any suspicions? You will see advertisements and messages about this on the social media channels Facebook and Instagram in the coming weeks. Because safe living in your neighborhood should be normal for everyone.
Drug production poses danger to local residents. Hazardous materials are handled, with risks of fire and explosions. There are also risks to health and the environment. And it brings crime into the neighborhood. Tackling drug crime is not something the government can do alone; it can only succeed together. Do you see something suspicious? Report it, because every suspicion counts!
Recognizing Signals
Drugs are produced not only in abandoned sheds in the countryside, but also in garage boxes or homes in the middle of residential areas. Of course, criminals do everything they can to camouflage their activities, but you can still recognize signs. Think for example of taped windows, cameras on facades, strange smells and persons at strange times.
Mayor Jos van Bree "You hear it more and more often on the news: a hemp farm rounded up or drug lab found. The world of drugs is growing rapidly and that means more drug labs. Hemp nurseries and drug labs are often found, like in our own municipality where house in Geldrop-Mierlo had to be locked after finding large amount of drugs." | Studio040.
Drug labs and hemp farms are a danger to you as residents. Through this campaign, we point out the signs and risks. And more importantly, where you can report if you suspect!"
Increase willingness to report
If you see things that don't make sense you can report it. Surveys show that many residents and business owners do not do this. Sometimes out of fear, but often because they do not know what they can really look out for or where they can report suspicions. With this campaign, the municipality wants to increase the willingness to report!
Anonymous reporting is truly anonymous
Reporting suspicions can be done with the police, but many people find this exciting. It can also be done anonymously at Report Crime Anonymously (M.). Reporting to M. is always anonymous. M. does not see telephone numbers, does not record conversations and does not take notes of traceable information. Anonymous really is anonymous!
Report:
- Anonymous: www.meldmisdaadanoniem.nl or call 0800-7000 free of charge
- Police: www.politie.nl or 0900-8844.
Never take action yourself when you find a lab or nursery, but report it!
Together for a safe neighborhood
The campaign lasts from Nov. 4 through Nov. 24, 2024. The municipality is also using flyers and posters to reach residents who are not (so) active on social media. In this way, the municipality hopes to raise awareness and increase the number of reports so as not to give drug criminals a chance.
