Youth Council

It is important for young people to be involved in the community. To stimulate this, it is good to involve young people in the creation, implementation and evaluation of policies related to young people and their environment. In this way, we gain insight into what drives young people and the policy better matches their wishes and needs. In May 2018, Geldrop-Mierlo's first Youth Council was installed.

The young people are trained as "advisory catchers" to gather the information and views of young people from Geldrop-Mierlo. The Youth Council gives solicited and unsolicited advice to the municipal council. On the one hand, they advise on questions from the municipality, and on the other, they give unsolicited advice on points that the Youth Council or other young people from the municipality notice. They also join various committees and platforms. This method of youth participation fits both the wishes of the young people themselves and the municipal council's objective of promoting participation.

Thus, the Youth Council forms a bridge function between the municipality (college and council) and young people in the municipality. One of the objectives of the Youth Council is to enthuse young people about municipal politics and make them more aware of our democratic society. Education and development are a part of the Youth Council.
