Air Quality
The air in Eindhoven is the most polluted in our region. High concentrations of particulate matter have been measured, particularly at the intersection on Kennedylaan. This is evident from the annual report published by the Regional Monitoring Network for Southeast Brabant. There is relatively little air pollution in Geldrop-Mierlo.
By Map the Map of particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide in the region, the Regional Monitoring Network aims to contribute to a healthier and more sustainable living environment. The report shows that 70% of the particulate matter in the air is carried in from outside the region. Pollutants are particularly prevalent when the wind is blowing from the north.
High concentrations in urban areas
High concentrations of nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter are measured, particularly in urban areas. Traffic appears to be a major contributor. High concentrations are measured around the ring road in Eindhoven, especially at the intersection on Kennedylaan. Clear peaks can be seen around rush hour. The positive influence of green spaces in the city is clearly visible in the results. Concentrations are visibly lower near city parks. The air around the airport is also significantly more polluted. The extent to which these pollutants affect the rest of the region is still unclear.
Situation in Geldrop-Mierlo
There is a measuring station at Voortje in Geldrop-Mierlo. Our municipality belongs to the 'low' region. This means that, compared to urban areas, there is little air pollution here. Within this category, our municipality does have one of the highest concentrations of nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter compared to other measuring locations in the region. More particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide are measured in the air More particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide are measured in the air than recommended by the World Health Organization. This applies to almost the entire Netherlands.
According to the report, in order to be able to measure more specifically in the future, more information must be made available about external factors that have an influence, such as traffic composition and the number of stable types and animals in rural areas. It is also important to take a closer look at the placement of measuring stations in rural areas, so that the influence of stables can be better monitored.
