Handicapped parking pass

What is it?

A disabled parking permit allows you to park in disabled parking spaces in all EU countries, Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland. However, you must follow local parking rules.

There are 3 types of Maps.

Driver's card

  • You cannot walk more than 100 meters independently for at least six months. Not even with aids, such as a cane or crutches.
  • You can drive your own car.

Passenger card

  • You cannot walk more than 100 meters independently for at least six months. Not even with aids, such as a cane or crutches.
  • You cannot drive a car by yourself. You constantly need the help of a driver.

You can also apply for a combination of a driver card and a passenger card. For example, if you are permanently confined to a wheelchair.

  • The parking map is not by license plate number. You can use the Map for any car.
  • The parking pass is valid for up to 5 years.

What to do.

  • You apply for the disabled parking permit from the municipality.
  • A medical authority examines your physical disability. The municipality determines which authority does this.

Inclusive for all

Geldrop-Mierlo wants to be an inclusive municipality. This also means that where possible, all residents should be able to use functions in the municipality at a realistic walking distance. Owners of a disabled parking permit may park for free and without restriction in special disabled parking spaces and in all paid on-street parking spaces. In streets where parking is prohibited, they may park for up to 3 hours.

Even non-owners of a disabled parking permit should be able to reach the center easily. So also elderly people who can walk less than 300 meters. Short-term parking close to stores and facilities should remain possible for them. People without access to a car must also be able to get to the stores. To this end, convenient bicycle facilities are created. The use of general disabled parking spaces will be permanently monitored and where necessary, parking spaces will be added, removed or relocated.
