Livability
Waste is everywhere. Every day we see minicontainers, underground containers, garbage trucks and waste heroes in our municipality. If waste is not offered or collected in the right way, it affects the livability of Gemeente Geldrop-Mierlo.
Besides waste collection by Cure Afvalbeheer, the municipality takes extra measures to keep Geldrop-Mierlo clean and pleasant. Together with the inhabitants we work on a pleasant living environment.
BuitenBeter
Do you see an overflowing trash can or trash dumped on the street? Report it easily through the BuitenBeter app. You can also report other problems, such as loose paving stones or broken street lights, through this app.
PBD bags and crown rings
Plastic, can and drink cartons (PBD waste) is collected in Geldrop-Mierlo in special PBD bags. These bags are recognizable so that they are collected with the correct waste stream. The bags must be put on the street on collection day.
To prevent the bags from blowing away, hang them from a crown ring. This is a holder on a lamppost. These should also only be used on collection day.
You can request a crown ring to hang in your neighborhood through the Contact form of Municipality Geldrop-Mierlo. Fill in the word "Crown Ring" under "Question or comment?" and indicate where you would like the crown ring to be placed.
The plastic bags for PBD collection can be picked up for free at the town hall in Geldrop, the environmental street in Geldrop and at the counter of the Albert Heijn, Nettorama, Jumbo (Geldrop) and Plus (Mierlo).
Clean Geldrop-Mierlo and The Beast Gang
A large group of volunteers regularly clean up litter. Together they pick about 1200 bags of litter from nature! If you want to become a volunteer or participate in a national cleanup day, check out the website of the workgroup Clean Geldrop-Mierlo.
Children ages 6 to 12 can join The Beestenbende as a team. The Beestenbende ensures that litter is cleaned up so that animals are not bothered by waste in nature. For more information and to sign up, visit the website of The Beestenbende.
E-waste race and Textile race
The best waste is no waste. That is why elementary school children learn how to properly hand in e-waste and textiles, or, for example, give them a second life at the thrift store. Twice a year, school classes compete to save as much e-waste and textiles from the landfill as possible.
Neighborhood initiatives
A clean environment makes for a nice neighborhood. Together with your neighbors, you can do this yourself. For example, organize a litter clean-up campaign or a trash can pimping contest. The municipality may provide materials or subsidies for this. Initiatives that prevent waste also qualify, such as a swap market or a cooking workshop with leftover food.
