Board of Mayor and Aldermen

The Municipal Executive (B&W) is the municipality’s day-to-day governing body. The municipal council appoints the aldermen. Geldrop-Mierlo has four aldermen; the mayor and the municipal clerk are also members of the Municipal Executive. The mayor serves as the chair of the Municipal Executive.
The municipal executive is responsible for preparing and implementing council proposals, enforcing laws, and ensuring that municipal council decisions are carried out. The mayor and aldermen have divided their responsibilities among themselves—a process known as the “portfolio allocation.” They meet every Tuesday. These meetingsare not open to the public, but the agenda and a list of decisions from each meeting are made public.
Broad Council Program
Toward a Future-Ready Geldrop-Mierlo
For this term of office, we have opted for a broad council program that outlines the main points. Our ambition is to build a future-proof Geldrop-Mierlo based on shared responsibility among residents, business owners, associations, and civic organizations.
During the coming term of office, Geldrop-Mierlo faces major social challenges. Pressure on the housing market is increasing, public services are under strain, the energy transition requires difficult decisions, social and financial pressures in the social sector are growing, and at the same time, the regional context is changing due to the development of Brainport. In addition, residents’ expectations of the government and public services are rising.
We have therefore chosen a course of action that prioritizes broad prosperity. This means that decisions are not assessed solely on the basis of financial or economic impacts, but also on quality of life, health, social cohesion, safety, sustainability, and future-proofing. In this regard, Vision 2044 and the strategy derived from it will continue to serve as a long-term compass guiding the development of our municipality. This Broad Council Program is explicitly not a rigid coalition agreement. The document outlines the shared direction, ambitions, and framework conditions for the coming administrative term, while at the same time allowing room for political differences and debate regarding its further implementation.
