Reception of refugees
Taking in refugees affects us all. It raises questions, concerns, and emotions. Some people take it for granted that those seeking protection should be welcomed. Others worry about the impact on the neighborhood, local services, or society. Both perspectives deserve to be heard. At the same time, different groups of people who come to the Netherlands for shelter or housing are often lumped together. Asylum seekers, status holders, Ukrainian displaced persons, and unaccompanied minor foreigners are not the same. They are subject to different rules, procedures, and responsibilities. The role of the municipality also differs per group.
That is why, on this page, we explain how childcare is organized in Geldrop-Mierlo. Why is childcare necessary? What is the municipality required to do by law, and where does it have the flexibility to make its own decisions? What childcare options are already available, and what challenges still lie ahead?
