Council and Committees
The city council is the highest governing body of the municipality and is elected by the residents. The council sets the general direction for municipal affairs by establishing policy frameworks. In addition, the city council advocates for the interests of residents, businesses, and institutions. The council also oversees the mayor and aldermen (B&W), who are responsible for the day-to-day administration of the municipality.
The members of the municipal council are directly elected by the residents of the municipality once every four years. The municipal council of Geldrop-Mierlo consists of 27 members, divided among 8 political groups.
The committees
The city council meets about once every five weeks to make decisions on matters within the municipality. In the run-up to these council meetings, committee meetings are held to debate the proposals on the agenda. There are three committees in total: the General Affairs Committee, the Planning and Development Committee, and the Community Affairs Committee.
These committees are composed of council members as well as citizen committee members. Citizen committee members are residents who have been nominated on behalf of a political party, who support that party, and who therefore participate in one of the committees on behalf of the party.
