Moped Driving License

How does it work?

You need a moped license to drive a:

  • scooter
  • moped
  • moped
  • moped
  • quad
  • trike and
  • speed-pedelec (bicycle with electric pedal assistance with a speed of up to 45 kilometers per hour)

For a moped license, you must pass a theory exam and practical exam at the CBR. You can do this from the age of 16. Do you already have another driving license? Then you do not need to obtain a moped license and the moped license (driving license AM) will automatically be added to your driving license. Except if you only have a tractor license. That does not count as a moped license.

For a special moped, such as a segway, you do not need a (moped) driver's license. However, your moped must have an insurance plate.

What to do.

After you pass the exam, you can apply for the moped license at the municipality the next day.

What do I need?

  • A color passport photo that meets the requirements for passport photos.
  • Cash or a debit card. You pay directly at the time of application.
  • When applying for your first driver's license: a valid passport or identity card.
  • When renewing your driver's license: the driver's license you already have. If it is no longer valid, please also bring a valid passport or identity card.

How long does it take?

After 5 business days, you can pick up the new driver's license in person at the municipality. Please bring your old driving license with you. Do you need the driving license sooner? It is possible to apply for a driving license with urgency. If you request the driving license before 2 p.m., you can pick it up within 2 working days.

You have 3 months to get your driver's license.

Additional information

Serious violations on the moped also count toward the beginner's license. More information can be found on the CBR website.

If you have been disqualified from driving license A or B for medical reasons, the moped license category AM does remain valid on your license.
