Plans for St. Joseph Church take final shape

Start of construction in April 2022

On Thursday, November 11, the lease agreement between Futuris and Haagdijk/Houta was signed for 30 independent living/care studios and associated common areas such as common living rooms, a meeting room and support spaces. On the same date, the agreement was also signed between the municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo and Futuris in which the Requirements renting were established. All studios will be rented out by Futuris as social housing to individual tenants.

Layout church

The studios have their own kitchenette, bathroom, living and sleeping areas with living area ranging between 25 and 50 m2. Floors will be built in the existing church building. As a result, the studios are located on the ground, 1st and 2nd floors. In the building is also approximately 400 m2 of leasable space to be divided over two floors for social functions such as practice rooms.

Tenants help each other

Futuris' tenants are elderly people with dementia and young people with disabilities. The goal of Futuris is for the young people to serve a support function for the demented elderly before they can live independently.

Process

The environmental permit was granted on September 3. It became irrevocable at the end of October, as no views were received against the building plan. Nevertheless, we cannot yet make a final start because of the Flora/Fauna Act. The existing winter quarters, in the church, of bats should remain untouched until mid-April 2022 (subject to favorable weather conditions) after which the construction work can only start and the replacement permanent bat quarters can be realized. 

A large number of nest boxes have already been installed in the area for bats, swallows and house sparrows. We will now begin construction preparations. Assuming the start in mid-April 2022, we expect to deliver the building ready for use in the summer of 2023.

Redevelopment of St. Joseph Square

The redevelopment of St. Joseph's Square, after the construction work relates in particular to the area between the Aldi and the church. More can only be said about this when we are further along in the process.
