This route has been given the name of the Little Kingfisher Butterfly. This butterfly symbolizes all new initiatives and projects in Geldrop-Mierlo that increase or strengthen the biodiversity in our municipality. Forester Jap Smits brought this butterfly back to our municipality not so long ago.
A successful initiative, but much more has been done to increase biodiversity in our community. The "Little Kingfisher Butterfly" cycling route has many spots where all this work is visible. The route passes lots of water, beautiful banks, parks, meadows, woodlands, village gardens and colorful balconies. This variety attracts many different types of life. Important, because this variety is valuable for humans, animals and plants. The lesser kingfisher butterfly is also fluttering around happily again, thanks to all efforts.
