Moving abroad
Are you planning to emigrate or will you be staying abroad for more than 8 months? If so, please notify the municipality of your departure.
How does it work?
You must notify the municipality of your move at least 5 days in advance. If no one is staying at your address, you can report this online using DigiD.
If a family member is staying at your address, those who are moving must report their departure at the service desk. To do this, you must schedule an appointment within 5 business days of your departure.
You can make an Make an appointment to report your emigration in person at our counter.
Please bring the following information to the appointment:
- ID
- your new address
- the date of emigration
- if more than one person is coming with you to the appointment, they should also bring their identity documents
Please note: You will be deregistered on the day you report your move (not on your actual moving-out date).
Who can pass on an emigration?
- Anyone 16 years of age or older who is moving.
- Spouses or registered partners and their adult children, if they move abroad together from the same address.
- A parent, guardian, or caregiver for minor children who are moving abroad with them.
- One of the parents, if the entire family moves abroad from the same address.
- An adult who has been authorized in writing by the person moving.

This ensures that government agencies can continue to reach you and that you receive important information, such as updates on benefits, pensions, social security payments, tax matters, or student financial aid. In addition, having a correct address helps ensure you receive official mail and facilitates the smooth handling of matters such as inheritances.
