Volunteer Insurance

What is it?

The municipality has arranged a collective volunteer insurance for volunteer organizations, which means that all volunteers in Geldrop-Mierlo are automatically insured. Application or registration is not necessary. There is no excess and social trainees are also covered by the volunteer insurance.

What to do.

The insurance area is the Netherlands. Occasional cross-border activities for volunteers fall within the insurance area (excluding disaster relief).

Volunteers from the municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo are always insured. Volunteers from an insured municipality, who start volunteering in another municipality, are insured on the policy of the home municipality. Does the working municipality or the volunteer organization for which the volunteer activities are performed have its own volunteer insurance? Then the volunteer is insured through the "working municipality" or the volunteer organization. Volunteers from an uninsured municipality, who start volunteering for an organization from an insured municipality, are also insured.

Volunteer insurance consists of two packages: the Basic Policy and the Plus Policy. The Basic Policy includes accident, personal property and liability insurance for volunteers. The Plus Policy consists of (traffic) liability insurance for legal entities and director's liability and legal expenses insurance for volunteers. Together, these packages provide ample coverage (see the insurance overview on tab more information).

Claim declaration VNG Volunteer Policy

In case of damage, you can file a claim by completing the damage declaration form and sending it to the municipality.

The municipality forwards the claim through intermediary AON to insurer Centraal Beheer Achmea. The claim is then settled by Centraal Beheer Achmea directly with the injured party.

General questions about the VNG Volunteer Policy or questions about the status of a claim can be addressed directly to Centraal Beheer, tel. (055) 579 81 64 or e-mail overheid.support@centraalbeheer.nl

The municipality will be notified of how the claim was handled. The municipality can check with the association or organization to verify that someone is justified in making a claim.

How does it work?

Volunteer insurance is intended for any volunteer who is active in the municipality or for an organization from the municipality. A volunteer is someone who performs unpaid work in an organizational context, without obligation, for the benefit of others and/or society with a social interest. Every volunteer, active in the municipality or for an organization from the municipality is insured, regardless of age and number of hours worked. The insurance also applies to one-time activities, such as volunteers helping with the annual St. Nicholas parade.

The insurance is also intended for informal caregivers. Informal care is long-term and intensive Health, which is not provided as part of a helping profession by a person, at least 8 hours per week, to a needy chronically ill and/or disabled partner, parent, child, friend or neighbor. Informal caregivers cannot claim traffic liability for legal entities because care tasks are not performed for a legal entity.

What does it cost?

Volunteer (organizations) can take advantage of the Collective Volunteer Insurance at no cost.
