Parking on De Meent in Geldrop will be metered starting July 6
The center of Geldrop is getting busier and busier. Many parking spaces are taken, especially on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons. As a result, it can sometimes be difficult for visitors who want to go shopping or have an appointment—for example, at an optician—to find a spot.
The number of homes in the city center is also growing. As a result, the demand for parking spaces continues to rise. At the same time, we want to preserve enough space for green areas and a pleasant living environment. Creating additional parking spaces is therefore not straightforward. That is why we will be introducing paid parking on De Meent starting July 6, 2026. Visitors will pay €0.90 per hour, with a maximum of €6 per day. The second hour of parking is free. Paid parking applies Monday through Saturday between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
More space for visitors to the city center
To free up more parking spaces for visitors to the city center, we encourage municipal employees, shop staff, and office workers to stop parking on De Meent. Otherwise, they will have to pay. They can use free parking spaces just outside the city center. For example, additional free parking spaces have been created near the Weeffabriek and the Weverijmuseum, as well as at the entrance to Geldrop Castle on Helze. These spots are within walking distance of the city center.

This way, we ensure that people who park for longer periods tend to park their cars on the outskirts of the city center more often. As a result, more parking spaces remain available on De Meent for visitors who are only in the city center for a short time. Research shows that visitors who stay for a short time prefer to park close to their destination. People who stay longer usually don’t mind walking a little farther.
Blue Zone to Be Eliminated
As of July 6, the blue zone on De Meent will also be eliminated. From now on, the same parking rules will apply throughout the city center. This will make things clearer for visitors and prevent confusion. In addition, it turned out that the blue zone did not always work as intended. Some drivers adjusted the arrival time on their parking discs, which meant that parking spaces were sometimes occupied longer than permitted.
Car-sharing as an alternative
Car-sharing vehicles have recently been introduced in the center of Geldrop. They help reduce parking pressure and are better for the environment.Residentscan sign up through OnzeAuto. Using an app, they can easily reserve and use a car-sharing vehicle. If there is sufficient interest, additional car-sharing vehicles may be added.
