Maasbracht - Eindhoven grid expansion
A new overhead high-voltage power line will be built between Maasbracht and Eindhoven. It will be a 380-kilovolt line. This expansion is necessary to strengthen the power grid.
The new connection will support the energy transition in the southern Netherlands. The amount of renewable energy, such as solar and wind power, is steadily increasing. This means that additional capacity is needed on the power grid. The connection will also improve the exchange of electricity with Belgium and Germany. This will ensure a reliable supply of electricity, both in the Netherlands and beyond.
The project is being carried out by TenneT in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth. More information about the various stages of the project is available on the RVO (Netherlands Enterprise Agency) website .
The project is currently in the exploratory phase. During this phase, various possible routes are being examined. Next, the environmental impacts will be assessed. The most suitable route will also be determined.
Construction of the new high-voltage transmission line will not begin until the final project decision has been approved. The line is expected to be completed in 2035.
