Inventory of the Entire Art and Heritage Collection Begins

We have begun organizing a unique (art) collection that has been built up over the years. Works of art, antique and designer furniture, heirlooms, and other valuable objects are stored at various municipal locations and in storage facilities.

Until now, there has been no comprehensive overview. There are no clear guidelines on how this collection should be managed. That is why the municipality first wants to gain a clear understanding of exactly what it owns, where the objects come from, and what they are worth.

External experts

To ensure this is done carefully, external experts are brought in. They catalog the entire collection in Map appraise the objects. The municipality can then use this information to make informed decisions. Some objects will be retained, while others may be placed in museums or with heritage organizations. In some cases, it may also be possible to determine whether an object should be returned to its rightful owner or, if appropriate, sold.

New Policy

For items that will not remain in the municipal collection, a careful process will be established to dispose of them. This process will comply with applicable rules and standards of care. At the same time, the municipality is working on a new policy. The goal is to better define how such collections are handled, so that their management and storage are better organized in the future.

When assets are sold or transferred, this is done transparently and, where necessary, with a public announcement.
