Geldrop-Mierlo is investing in its residents and the future, but its financial results are lower than expected

In 2025, the municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo made significant investments in its residents, neighborhoods, and a sustainable future. This is evident from the 2025 annual reports, which detail the municipality’s activities over the past year and the financial results of those efforts. The municipality ended the year with a surplus of over €1.4 million. This is less than previously anticipated; initial projections had called for a surplus of over €3.3 million.

In the annual report, the municipal executive provides an account of the results for 2025 and identifies areas where adjustments were needed, broken down by budget program. This involves not only looking back but also looking ahead. The municipality operates based on the Vision 2044, which centers on residential well-being in a green, connected, and vibrant Geldrop-Mierlo. The results for 2025 show the extent to which the municipality is on track toward that future.

Focus on Equal Opportunities and Strong Neighborhoods

In 2025, the municipality focused primarily on equal opportunities and providing effective support for residents. For example, assistance was offered earlier, information and support through “Onze Wegwijzer” were further improved, and the municipality collaborated more closely with Health and employment partners. Progress was also made on the construction of schools. At the same time, pressure on the Social Support Act (Wmo) and youth services remains as high as ever. The municipality is therefore working to provide better and faster support, with a greater emphasis on prevention.

Comprehensive Approach

Investments were also made as part of the “Strong Neighborhoods” budget program. The municipality focused on creating livable, healthy neighborhoods and strengthening social cohesion. In neighborhoods such as Coevering, work is underway on a comprehensive approach that brings together housing, quality of life, and social development.

Attractive, accessible, and lively

In the outlying areas, the focus was on nature, the landscape, and recreation. In addition, work was done on plans and projects related to mobility, sustainability, safety, and the economy. The goal: a municipality that remains attractive, accessible, and a pleasant place to live.

Housing Crisis

The housing shortage is and remains a major concern. With more than a thousand homes in the planning stages, the municipality is working to increase the housing supply. “We’re continuing to build, but the challenge remains significant,” according to the municipal executive.

Strong organization

Behind the scenes, the municipality was working to improve its organization. This included clearer leadership, better service delivery, and greater use of data. While these efforts are less visible, they help the municipality operate more efficiently and transparently.

Financial Results Under Pressure

The financial statements show a net income of €1,434,432. This is lower than previously expected. The fact that the municipality has less surplus than expected is mainly due to higher costs in the social sector and an adjustment to the pension provision for executives. Although the result is positive, the financial outlook remains challenging. Costs are rising, which means the municipality will have to make difficult choices in the coming years as well.

A Look Ahead to 2044

Geldrop-Mierlo is working toward a vision for 2044: a green, connected, and vibrant municipality that is a pleasant place to live. The results from 2025 show that progress is being made, but that there is still work to be done.
