Temporary traffic control on Eindhovenseweg in Geldrop

Due to increasing traffic volume, road safety on Eindhovenseweg in Geldrop is coming under growing pressure. The municipality has therefore previously taken measures to improve road safety. In 2023, the right-turn lane at the Eindhovenseweg/Hulsterweg intersection was removed. The bus stops at Papenvoort and Emmalaan were modified so that buses stop in the traffic lane, requiring traffic behind to wait briefly. In 2025, the no-passing zone on Eindhovenseweg, west of Papenvoort, was extended. Despite this, a fatal accident unfortunately occurred last year on Eindhovenseweg, at the exit to Hulst. This naturally had a profound impact and raised concerns among local residents about the safety of this road.

Consultation with local residents

The municipality is currently engaged in detailed discussions with a delegation of local residents. These discussions reveal that they are seriously concerned about the speed at which vehicles travel on Eindhovenseweg. Furthermore, residents consider the (bicycle) crossing at Hulsterweg to be unsafe. At this location, there is no median where cyclists and pedestrians can wait for a moment. This is present at other crossings, Sun. , this is a busy section of Eindhovenseweg.

The municipality has now worked with local residents to explore ways to make the crossing safer. A solution has been found. This involves creating a safe area in the middle of the road so that pedestrians can cross in two stages. To do this, the left-turn lane must be removed. Time is needed to properly prepare for this. Until then, a temporary traffic measure will be implemented (see image). A permanent change will follow in the first half of 2027.

Temporary traffic measure

The left-turn lane from Eindhoven toward Hulsterweg will be removed. This will be done using clear, movable barriers that will be installed next spring. With the removal of the left-turn lane, traffic coming from Eindhoven will automatically slow down.

Research

In addition to this temporary measure, the municipality has also commissioned an external firm to assess whether the layout of Eindhovenseweg meets safety requirements and whether any further measures are needed. The results of the study will be announced before the summer vacation of 2026.
