The Gijzenrooi development is progressing smoothly

Enhancing nature, the landscape, and the visitor experience are our top priorities

Gijzenrooi is a valuable small-scale agricultural landscape surrounding the Gijzenrooise Zegge. Brabants Landschap and the municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo are the largest landowners in the area. We want to enhance this unique landscape and make it even more accessible to the public. To this end, the Gijzenrooi Master Plan was developed in collaboration with local residents and relevant regional partners. The municipal council adopted this Master Plan in December 2024. One of the steps to achieve this is to recruit a contractor.

The recruitment of an agricultural entrepreneur (manager/farmer) is proceeding smoothly

In November 2025, Geldrop-Mierlo and Brabants Landschap issued a joint call for proposals seeking an entrepreneur (manager/farmer) committed to creating a beautiful and green Gijzenrooi. Following a number of exploratory discussions, four parties were selected to submit detailed business proposals. The plan is to sign a cooperation agreement with the final candidate in the near future regarding the management of the Gijzenrooi area.

In total, there are over 150 hectares of agricultural and natural land that this entrepreneur will be responsible for managing. We also plan to create a community hub featuring a reception area and space for parking and storage, with the aim of bridging the gap between the city and the countryside.
