How does the Stadteland Initiative Fund for Geldrop-Mierlo work?

The Stadteland Initiatives Fund Geldrop-Mierlo is funded through a surcharge on the property tax (OZB) for non-residential properties. Owners of buildings and users of workspaces automatically contribute to this fund on a pro-rata basis. The contribution is paid by owners and/or users of non-residential properties covered by the program.
This may include, among other things:

  • Companies
  • Stores
  • Offices
  • Hospitality
  • Schools
  • Healthcare facilities
  • Sports facilities
  • Cultural Institutions
  • Other organizations that use non-residential properties

The proceeds from the property tax surcharge are earmarked for the Stadteland Geldrop-Mierlo Fund and are not used for other municipal expenditures. The funds remain available for the purposes for which the fund was established. And because the municipality itself also owns real estate, it contributes to the fund as well.

How the Stadteland Initiative Fund Geldrop-Mierlo Works

With the Stadteland Initiative Fund Geldrop-Mierlo—provided the city council approves the fund’s establishment—we will soon be able to make our village stronger and more future-proof by investing together in community-wide improvements. The fund helps in three ways:

  1. Greater effectiveness and continuity
Good plans are given a structural foundation, without having to seek funding anew every year.
  2. Collaboration Pays Off
Entrepreneurs and nonprofit organizations can more easily launch joint projects that improve the business climate.
  3. Greater Impact Through Co-Funding
Having its own fund makes it easier to attract additional funding and enable larger initiatives.

The Stadteland Initiative Fund Geldrop-Mierlo will be managed by an independent foundation following approval by the city council.

The foundation is responsible for:

  • Management of Resources
  • The Review of Applications
  • The Awarding of Grants
  • Financial Accountability
  • Monitoring the fund's objectives

The foundation reports annually on its revenue, expenses, and results.
