What to do?
Has your passport or identity document been lost or stolen? Then you can report the loss of your travel document online, this is called a declaration of loss. This declaration is necessary to prevent misuse of your old travel document and so that you can apply for a new travel document from us. You do not have to report it to the police.
Report missing or stolen travel document online
If you are unable to report the loss to us online, you can make a Make an appointment appointment so that we can help you with the declaration of loss. If you also want to apply for a new travel document immediately, please make sure that you make two appointments (both an appointment for the statement of missing persons and an appointment for applying for a new travel document). This will give us enough time to help you properly.

Why do I need to report a missing person?
The government registers the document number of your missing passport or identity card when you file a declaration of loss. This registration helps in the fight against identity fraud.
Can I still use my document if it is recovered?
Do you find your passport or identity card after you have passed on a declaration of loss? Then you are obliged to return the document to your municipality. You can no longer use your recovered document as a means of identification. This is because the document is registered as missing. This registration cannot be reversed. The municipality destroys the document to prevent fraud and abuse.
Also, if your passport or identity card is found by someone else, unfortunately it cannot be returned to you . The document will be invalidated to prevent fraud and abuse.
Report to insurance against theft
Has your passport or identity card been stolen and you are insured against theft? If so, it is helpful to report it to the police so you can prove it.
What should I do if the document is lost abroad?
Lost your passport or identity card abroad? Report it to the local police immediately. You can then apply to the Dutch embassy or consulate for an emergency document. In the Netherlands you do not have to report this to the Dutch police. With the foreign official report you can apply for a passport or identity card at the municipality.
