What is it?

An identity card allows you to show who you are (identification). It also allows you to travel to most countries in Europe

From the age of 14, there is an identification requirement in the Netherlands. The choice of an identity card or passport is up to you. You can read more about the differences between a passport and identity card on the website of Rijksoverheid.

From 2021, the identity card will have a special login function for DigiD. Read more at DigiD.co.uk

When will my travel document be ready?

You will receive an email as soon as the identity card can be picked up, this can take up to 5 working days. You can stop by the town hall to pick up the travel document without an appointment.

Rush request

If you need your identity card quickly, make an urgent application. To do so, you make an appointment before 3:30 pm. The document will be ready for you within 2 working days.

Additional fees are charged for an urgent request.

Do you no longer have your old identity card or passport? Then an urgent application is not always possible. In this case, please contact us by phone.

Are you leaving today? Then go to the State Police for an emergency document.
