What is a voter ID card?

Do you want to vote in the House of Representatives elections on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, in a municipality other than where you live? Then you need a voter's pass. With a voter card you can vote in any municipality in the Netherlands. The voter card replaces your voting pass.

Where do you apply for a voter ID card?

You apply for a voter ID card in the municipality where you were registered in the Basic Registration of PersonsBRP) on Monday, September 15, 2025 (the day of candidacy).

How do you apply for a voter ID card?

It is no longer possible to apply for a voter ID card!

Important to know:

  • A voter ID card cannot be replaced if lost.
  • Starting Wednesday, October 8, 2025, we will send voter cards by mail. Because the mail is not delivered daily everywhere, we advise you to apply for the voter ID card on time.
  • Are you going to vote? Always bring your voter's card and a valid ID with you. Your identification may not be older than 5 years.

Voter ID and proxy

A voter ID card can be converted to a private proxy. The chart below shows the options.

The proxy (the person voting on behalf of someone else) must cast the vote of the proxy giver (the person giving the proxy) at the same time as their own vote.
