Proxy elections

Do you want someone else to vote for you? Then give someone a proxy to arrange that for you. 

What is voting by proxy?

Can't make it to the polling place yourself? Then there are other ways to still vote. You can authorize someone else. This person (proxy) can then fill in a ballot paper on your behalf. A proxy can do this for a maximum of 2 persons. 

How exactly does this work?

Private proxy for House of Representatives elections 2025

Do you and the person who will vote for you both live in Geldrop-Mierlo? Then you can give a private proxy.

What to do:

  • Wait until you receive your voting card. You will receive it no later than Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025.
  • Fill out the back of the voting card together with the person who may vote on your behalf. Don't forget to both sign it.
  • Give a copy of your ID (it must not have expired more than 5 years) to the person who will be voting for you. This may also be a photo. Make sure that your signature is clearly visible.

You can still give a private proxy to someone until Election Day, Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2025. Do you still want to vote yourself? Then ask for your voting card back from your proxy.

Written proxy for House of Representatives elections 2025

For example, when: 

  • you cannot wait until you receive your voting card due to vacations,
  • the person you want to authorize is not going to vote in Geldrop-Mierlo,
  • You cannot provide a copy of a valid ID (for example, because it has been expired for more than 5 years)? 

Then use the written power of attorney.
 

What to do:

  • Download the form here or at the bottom of this page (modelform_l8_tk25.pdf).
  • Complete the form together with the authorized representative and both sign it.  
  • You do not need to attach a copy of your identification. We always check your information before sending the written proxy to the person who will vote for you.
  • Send the form to the Municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo, Postbus 10101, 5660 GA Geldrop or hand it in at the desk of the town hall, De Meent 2 in Geldrop. Your form must be received by us before Friday, October 24, 2025, 11:00 am .
  • The municipality will send the proxy certificate by mail to the person authorized to vote on your behalf by Friday, October 24, 2025 at the latest. So request this certificate in time to avoid problems due to mailing.
  • Do you still want to arrange a written proxy on Friday, Oct. 24? Then come to City Hall before 12:30 p.m. so you can bring the proxy form.

Unfortunately, at this time it is not yet possible to apply for a power of attorney digitally.

Note: A power of attorney granted in writing cannot be revoked.

Voting pass and proxy

If someone votes by proxy, that person must also vote for themselves at the same time. 

Recruiting

It is illegal to persuade people to vote for someone. We call this recruiting. Section Z4 of the Elections Act says it is punishable to force or bribe someone to give a proxy. Those who allow themselves to be bribed are also punishable. They can face up to six months in prison or a fine.
