Proxy elections

Do you want someone else to vote for you? Then give someone a proxy to arrange that for you. 

What is voting by proxy?

Can't make it to the polling place yourself? Then there are other ways to still vote. You can authorize someone else. This person (proxy) can then fill in a ballot paper on your behalf. A proxy can do this for a maximum of 2 persons.

Private power of attorney

Do you and the person who will vote for you both live in Geldrop-Mierlo? Then you can give a private proxy.

What to do:

  • Wait until you have received your voting pass.
  • Fill out the back of the voting card together with the person who may vote on your behalf. Don't forget to both sign it.
  • Give a copy of your ID (it must not have expired more than 5 years) to the person who will be voting for you. This may also be a photo. Make sure that your signature is clearly visible.

You can give someone a private proxy until election day, Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Would you still like to vote yourself? Then ask your proxy to return your voting pass.

Written power of attorney

If, for example, you are on vacation and cannot wait until you receive your voting pass, or if you are unable to provide a copy of a valid ID (for example, because it expired more than five years ago), you can use the written proxy form.

What to do:

  • Download the L8 form at the bottom of this page.
  • Complete the form together with the authorized representative and both sign it.  
  • You do not need to attach a copy of your identification. We always check your information before sending the written proxy to the person who will vote for you.
  • Send the form to the municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo, Postbus , 5660 GA Geldrop, or hand it in at the reception desk of the town hall, De Meent 2 in Geldrop. Your form must be received byus before Friday , March 13, 2026, 12:00 noon.
  • The municipality will send the proxy certificate by mail to the person authorized to vote on your behalf no later than Friday, March 13, 2026. Please request this certificate in good time to avoid any problems with delivery.
  • Would you like to arrange a written proxy on Friday, March 13, 2026? Please come to the town hall before 12:30 p.m. so that you can take the proxy certificate with you.

Starting Monday, February 9, it will also be possible to apply for a written proxy digitally.

Note: A power of attorney granted in writing cannot be revoked.

Voting pass and proxy

If someone votes by proxy, that person must also vote for themselves at the same time. 

Recruiting

It is illegal to persuade people to vote for someone. We call this recruiting. Section Z4 of the Elections Act says it is punishable to force or bribe someone to give a proxy. Those who allow themselves to be bribed are also punishable. They can face up to six months in prison or a fine.
