Priority List for Transportation Capacity in Housing Projects Announced
The power grid is becoming increasingly overloaded. We’re using more and more electricity—for example, for electric vehicles and for heating homes without gas. In addition, many people use a lot of electricity at the same time. This can cause the power grid to become overloaded. We call this grid congestion.
Grid congestion is a problem we must tackle together. The municipality cannot solve this problem on its own. That is why we are working together with Enexis, TenneT, the Eindhoven Metropolitan Region, the province of North Brabant, and the national government, among others.
We are working to expand the power grid. We are also looking for smart solutions within our municipality. Examples include energy hubs, energy storage, and better distribution of electricity usage. Residents can help, too. By using energy wisely and reducing the amount of electricity used at any given time, we can reduce peaks in electricity consumption. In this way, we are working step by step toward a power grid that is ready for the future.
Draft Sequence List
The municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo has drawn up a draft priority list for housing projects and schools. There is a separate list for Geldrop and one for Mierlo.
With this list, we aim to give housing projects and schools a clear priority. This will happen as soon as capacity becomes available again on the Enexis power grid. In this way, we want to ensure that housing construction and the development of our municipality can continue as much as possible.
Developers had until September 1, 2026, to submit their projects to the municipality for inclusion on the priority list. The draft priority lists for Geldrop and Mierlo were published on September 11, 2026.
Are you the applicant for a project that appears on the draft ranking list? If so, you have until September 21, 2026, to file an objection to your project’s position on the list. You must provide a justification for your objection. This means you must clearly explain why you disagree with your project’s position on the list. After reviewing all objections, the municipality will finalize the ranking list. Starting October 1, 2026, the municipality will send this list to the grid operator Enexis.

Policy Guidelines
The municipality has reviewed all submitted projects. In doing so, it assessed whether each project meets the “ Requirements ” criteria and determined its position on the list. The municipality applied policy guidelines for this purpose. These guidelines were previously established by the Executive Board of Geldrop-Mierlo.
According to the policy guidelines, some projects may end up in the same position on the list. In that case, the order is determined by a lottery. This lottery was conducted by a notary.
A position on the priority list does not guarantee that a project will be allocated transmission capacity. Even a high position on the list does not provide that guarantee. Ultimately, Enexis decides on the allocation of transmission capacity.
New Housing Development Initiatives
The draft priority list may include housing development initiatives that are not yet known to local residents. This is because the list is intended to reserve a spot for projects in advance, for when capacity becomes available on the power grid.
Being on the list does not mean that a project is already finalized. Nor does it mean that all decisions regarding the project have already been made.
Every housing development project goes through the standard procedures. As soon as a project reaches that stage, nearby residents are informed. They are then given the opportunity to contribute their ideas and provide feedback. This is done in accordance with the applicable rules for participation and decision-making.
