Ranking of Transportation Capacity for Housing Projects
The power grid is at capacity, and transmission capacity is scarce. Starting July 1, 2026, nationwide rules issued by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) will apply to the allocation of newly available capacity. Public services such as hospitals, drinking water utilities, and fire stations will be given priority. Next in line are, among others, residential construction, schools, and heating projects.
Starting Position
Through the priority list (divided into a list for Geldrop and a list for Mierlo), Geldrop-Mierlo aims to give all housing projects and schools in our municipality a clear starting point as soon as transmission capacity becomes available at Enexis. In this way, we ensure that housing construction and economic development can continue as much as possible.
Developers who wanted their projects to be considered for this priority list had until September 1, 2026, to submit their projects to the municipality.
Assessment Based on Policy Rules
The municipality has now reviewed all submitted projects and determined whether each applicant qualifies for inclusion on this list and where the application will be ranked. This was done based on policy guidelines previously established by the Municipal Executive of Geldrop-Mierlo.
If projects were ranked equally under the policy guidelines, the final order was determined by a lottery conducted by a notary.
Final Priority Lists for Housing Projects
The draft lists were published on September 11; objections could be filed through September 21. After reviewing the objections, the Municipal Executive adopted the final ranking list on September 28, 2026.
The lists have been compiled for the two congestion zones in Geldrop-Mierlo, which are:
Securing a position on the priority listdoes not automaticallymean that transmission capacity is available. This continues to depend on the capacity available from the grid operator.
New initiatives that may not be widely known yet
The priority list (divided into a list for Geldrop and a list for Mierlo) may include housing development initiatives that are not yet known to the local community. This is because the list is intended to allocate space to projects in a timely manner as soon as transmission capacity becomes available on the power grid. Inclusion on the list does not mean that a project is already finalized or that the decision-making process has been completed.
Every housing development project follows the standard procedures. Once a project reaches that stage, nearby residents are informed and given the opportunity to contribute their ideas or provide feedback in accordance with the applicable participation and decision-making procedures.
