Exhibition: “We Break the Cycle of Violence”
Domestic violence and child abuse are topics that people don’t find easy to talk about. Often, it happens behind closed doors. It’s also difficult to bring up suspicions about these issues. Still, a conversation, a comment, a gesture, or a question can make a big difference. Sometimes that’s exactly what’s needed to stop the violence.
Domestic violence and child abuse can happen to anyone. It occurs in all segments of society and across all cultures. That is why it is important that we talk about it together and break down the taboos.
From November 20 through December 6, the exhibition “We… Break the Cycle of Violence” will be on view at the Weeffabriek in Geldrop and Hof van Bethanië in Mierlo. Organized by the Mind Foundation, the exhibition features striking portraits and personal stories from people who have experienced domestic violence or child abuse. It illustrates how violence can be passed down from one generation to the next. The exhibition is powerful, offers insight, and calls on visitors not to look away, but to engage in conversation.
Alderman Mathil Sanders will open the exhibition on November 20 at 4:00 p.m. at the Weeffabriek. The opening is open to residents, professionals, city council members, network partners, and other interested parties. Following the opening, various professionals will engage in a discussion on this important topic.
November 20, 4:00 p.m., Weeffabriek, Geldrop.
