Tamara Mollemans, the new children's mayor of Geldrop-Mierlo

On Wednesday, July 8, Mayor Jos van Bree and Junior Mayor Irene Roy surprised Tamara Mollemans in her classroom with the news that she would become the new Junior Mayor of Geldrop-Mierlo. Tamara will be officially sworn in during the city council meeting on September 21, 2026. Throughout the school year, she will accompany the mayor and aldermen on their visits. She will also work on a project of her own choosing.

About Tamara

Tamara is 10 years old and attends ’t Schrijverke elementary school in Mierlo. She’s a real dance enthusiast and loves dancing with the Dansmariekes. Tamara: “As a children’s mayor, I think it’s important that every child has a friend. No one should have to be alone or feel lonely. I also think it’s important for children to believe in themselves—and not just do things because others tell them to. This is what I want to focus on during the coming school year and use to help other children.”

Mayor Jos van Bree is enthusiastic about her appointment: "We are proud to welcome Tamara as our fourth children’s mayor. She is committed to issues that are important to many children: ensuring that everyone has friends, can stay safe online, and can grow up with self-confidence. With her enthusiasm, infectious energy, and dedication, she is an inspiring representative of the children in our municipality. I look forward to working with her and am convinced that she will give many children a voice.”

Irene's Project

After the school break, Tamara will take over the role and the chain of office from the current children’s mayor, Irene Roy. On May 31, Irene organized “Irene’s World Market,” introducing the residents of Geldrop-Mierlo to different cultures. In doing so, she fulfilled and concluded her role as children’s mayor in a meaningful way.
