Steering Committee Investigates the Stadteland Initiative Fund
What could Geldrop-Mierlo achieve together?
A joint energy project on an industrial park. A partnership between educational institutions and local employers. An initiative that brings sports and Health together. Or an event that puts Geldrop-Mierlo firmly on the Map . There are plenty of good ideas. But sometimes there’s a lack of funding, expertise, organizational capacity, or simply the first step.
Exploration
That is why we are exploring the StadteLand Initiative Fund through a steering committee: a fund that allows entrepreneurs, community organizations, educational institutions, Health, sports, and cultural organizations to invest together in initiatives that strengthen Geldrop-Mierlo.
The Stadteland Initiatives Fund is financed through a surcharge on the property tax (OZB) for non-residential properties. The contribution amounts to €65 per €100,000 in WOZ value. Owners and users of, among others, businesses, stores, offices,
restaurants and bars, schools, healthcare facilities, sports facilities, and cultural institutions automatically contribute to this fund on a pro-rata basis. The municipality collects the contribution through the property tax (OZB) and transfers the full proceeds to the Stadteland Initiatives Fund. The municipality also contributes for the real estate it owns. The proceeds are earmarked entirely for the fund and are not used for other municipal expenditures.
The fund isn't available yet
In December, the city council will make a decision on the possible implementation of the fund. That decision could also have financial implications for owners and users of non-residential properties. That is precisely why we believe it is important for
organizations to get well-informed now.
- What will we be discussing?
- What is the fund?
- How might it work?
- What does this mean for your organization?
- And perhaps the most important question: what should we use it to make possible?
Your ideas and questions are important to this exploratory study.
