The Gijzenrooi development is progressing well
The development of Gijzenrooi is proceeding according to plan. Together with Brabants Landschap, local residents, and other partners, we are working to create a stronger and more attractive landscape. Gijzenrooi is a small-scale agricultural area surrounding the Gijzenrooise Zegge. The area is important for nature, recreation, and the landscape.
This area has traditionally been a unique region where nature, water, and agriculture went hand in hand. By making smart use of seepage water and digging small canals, farmers were able to grow crops successfully. The old landscape has been preserved, partly because land consolidation never took place.
The Gijzenrooi Master Plan was drawn up to further enhance these qualities. This plan outlines how the area can develop in the coming years. The city council adopted the master plan in December 2024.

A lot of interest from business owners
An important step in implementing the plan is finding an entrepreneur to manage the area. This manager must contribute to a green, attractive, and future-proof Gijzenrooi. That is why, in November 2025, the municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo and Brabants Landschap issued a joint call for an agricultural entrepreneur. This manager must contribute to a green, attractive, and future-proof Gijzenrooi.
There was a great deal of interest. After several rounds of discussions, four parties were selected. They submitted a detailed plan and a business case at the end of January. The contract has since been provisionally awarded to one entrepreneur. Further discussions are now taking place with this entrepreneur. The goal is to sign a letter of intent after the summer. After that, the contract and the partnership can be finalized.
If everything goes according to plan, the developer will begin managing and further developing the area in late 2026 or early 2027.
Management of more than 150 hectares
The entrepreneur will be responsible for managing more than 150 hectares of agricultural and natural land. These lands will remain the property of the municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo and Brabants Landschap. A community gathering space will also be created. Discussions are still underway regarding its specific design. The space is intended to be a place where visitors, residents, and users of the area can come together. This will foster a stronger connection between our village and the countryside.
