Draft Decision on the New Skandia Children's Center Is Available for Public Review

The new building will bring together two elementary schools (Beneden Beekloop Elementary School and the Dalton Kindcentrum “
” in Dommeldal), the Potje Knor daycare center, and the Hulst-Skandia neighborhood association under one roof. This will create a pleasant
place where children can learn, play, and grow up, and where local residents can meet one another.

Working Together on a Plan for the Neighborhood
This draft decision was preceded by an extensive public participation process. Residents, parents, and other stakeholders provided input on the plans at various stages. Their feedback led to significant adjustments to the design. The municipality believes it is important that new plans align with the neighborhood’s wishes. That is why residents have been involved in the development of the child care center and its surroundings from the very beginning. A good example of this is the layout of the parking spaces. An updated plan was presented during the information meeting on January 26, 2026. In response to feedback from the neighborhood, the number of parking spaces was reduced from 85 to 32. This leaves more space for green areas while still providing sufficient parking.

The plans are available for public review through Thursday, October 1.
Anyone can view the plans and provide feedback. After that, the municipality will make a final decision. The documents

The schedule is as follows: first, the new building will be completed. Next, the temporary facilities at
will be removed, followed by the demolition of the current De Dommeldal school building, and finally, the construction road will be cleared.
