The municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo believes it is important for its residents to be healthy and to actively participate in society. We therefore encourage sports and physical activity as a means to promote health, strengthen social connections, and keep residents active at every stage of life. We take a broad approach to health, guided by the principles of Positive Health, which focuses not only on physical health but also on mental well-being, participation, a sense of purpose, and self-reliance.
Community sports coaches play a central role in this. They build connections between sports, physical activity, culture, and other areas such as Health, well-being, and education, and help increase participation in sports and physical activity, with a specific focus on vulnerable populations.
Physical Activity as a Priority for Social Value
We deploy community sports coaches to encourage sports and physical activity among residents of all ages, with a specific focus on children, youth, seniors, and residents with disabilities. Club sports remain a key priority due to the social value of club life. At the same time, the municipality is responding to changing needs in sports and physical activity, such as differently organized sports and outdoor sports.
