Royal Medal of Honor for the “De Kersenplukkers” Senior Citizens’ Association

The “De Kersenplukkers” Senior Citizens’ Association is an independent organization founded on August 28, 1951. At that time, the association’s
, “Bejaardenvereniging De Oude Kersenplukkers,” was “The Old Cherry Pickers.” The association’s goal is to help its
members stay active in a relaxed manner, both physically and mentally. With over
1,400 members, it is one of the largest associations in the municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo. The age requirement for
membership has been lowered from 65 to 50 to make it easier to attract new members. The atmosphere of the
Cherry Pickers is characterized by its accessibility. 

Social Responsibility

Within our municipality, the “De Kersenplukkers” Senior Citizens’ Association is a leading organization that focuses primarily on offering activities for seniors. These activities span a variety of disciplines, such as the creative club, women’s gym club, cycling club, men’s gym club, book club, line dance club, harmonica club, Nirvana Fitness, chair yoga, tai chi,
theater groups, and Zumba Gold. This association serves an important social purpose by organizing the above activities
and keeping members of the community engaged. It is a professional and dedicated association
that is very much in tune with the times and runs entirely on volunteers, who are cherished and honored by the board.
