Inventory of the municipal collection completed

From paintings and sculptures to unique objects: the municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo has recently entered its municipal collection into Map . The inventory has now been completed, making it clear which works of art and other objects the municipality owns.

Because many works of art and objects have been in storage for a long time and no longer play an active role, the municipality will be deaccessioning part of the collection. This means that these objects will no longer be part of the municipal collection. Before this takes place, potential interested parties will have the opportunity to come forward.

Curious about what art and objects the municipality owns? The complete inventory list, with photos and information for each item, can be viewed online via the Disposal Database at www.afstotingsdatabase.nl.

During the two-month publication period, the municipality gives artists (or their heirs) the opportunity to reclaim works of art. In addition, museums or other cultural heritage institutions may indicate whether they wish to acquire objects. Interested parties may express their interest, including their rationale, through the Disposal Database.

Careful and transparent

The de-collection process is not carried out arbitrarily. The municipality follows a careful and transparent procedure and adheres to the Heritage Act. After the public notice period, the responses are evaluated, and—based on established award criteria—it is determined which objects will be returned to the artist or given a new home at museums or heritage institutions. Items for which no claim is made will be offered for sale at a later date during a collection clearance event for residents of Geldrop-Mierlo. More information on this will follow as soon as the date is announced.
