Letter of Intent for the Gijzenrooi Area Development Signed

Brabants Landschap, the municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo, and Genneper Hoeve VOF are taking the next step together in the development of Hoeve Gijzenrooi. On Wednesday, November 4, the three parties signed an agreement expressing their intention to jointly explore how the area can be further developed.

“I’m pleased with this letter of intent. As a municipality, we have the best of both worlds: an urban center surrounded by plenty of green space, and we want to cherish that. This is one of the most beautiful areas we have. We’ve said that development will stop here and that we must preserve and enhance the rest of old Gijzenrooi, one of the six historic hamlets. We want to show residents that this area development will make the landscape of Gijzenrooi more resilient, while preserving what is important to them. I think we’ll succeed in doing that.”

Alderman Frans Stravers

Gijzenrooi is a valuable green space between Geldrop-Mierlo and Eindhoven, where nature, landscape, and community come together. The prospective new farmers at the Genneper Hoeve will manage the area in a nature-inclusive manner and create a community gathering place there. Preserving the area’s scenic character and natural environment is central to this effort.

The visitor center is intended to serve as a gateway to Gijzenrooi, where nature-inclusive management, public information, and small-scale activities come together. It helps visitors better understand and experience the area, while respecting its natural values. In this way, the green recreational area between Geldrop-Mierlo and Eindhoven becomes more visible and attractive to an ever-growing number of people.

Over the coming months, the three parties will assess whether the plans are feasible. Based on the results, they will decide in the spring of 2027 whether to sign an official cooperation agreement.
