Budget Geldrop-Mierlo unanimously adopted

On Monday, November 10, the City Council adopted the 2026-2029 multi-year program budget. With this budget, Geldrop-Mierlo takes another beautiful step towards a connected, vibrant and green municipality.

In these financially difficult years for municipalities, a balance has been sought between achieving our goals and maintaining a healthy financial situation.

Close budget despite challenges

The budgets for both 2026 and 2027 are balanced. 2028 still has a financial deficit. Thanks to additional revenue from the municipal fund and careful investment choices, Geldrop-Mierlo can present a stable financial picture with a positive balance again in 2029 after the so-called "ravine year" in 2028.

Local charges better distributed

Taxes and levies will be adjusted in line with price indexes to maintain their value. There are a few adjustments within the levies. For example, the municipal council has approved a new reduced rate for households with water consumption between 0 and 80 m³. This will ensure a fairer distribution of the burden. The minimum scheme will also include a maximum number of waivers for waste disposal, the rates for high-rise and low-rise buildings will be equalized, and the costs for green waste collection will be reduced. This will result in a more equitable distribution within the levies.

Investment in amenities and livability

In this budget there is room for several investments that contribute to the future of Geldrop-Mierlo: a connected, lively and green municipality where living happiness and broad prosperity is central. These include the construction of outdoor sports facilities in Mierlo and Geldrop and investments in road safety, bicycle paths and sustainability.

Amendments and motions

The city council adopted an amendment on key management on Monday evening. With this amendment, the council aims to implement a more targeted deployment of sports hall managers instead of the proposed budget cuts. The council wants to maximize the number of sports halls occupied, using the available capacity. In addition to the amendment, several motions were also submitted by the city council. These could not be considered and were therefore postponed until the December 8, 2025, council meeting.
