Ranking List of Transportation Capacity for Housing Projects Announced
The power grid is becoming increasingly overloaded. We’re using more electricity—for example, through electric vehicles and gas-free home heating. In addition, many people use electricity at the same time. As a result, the power grid becomes overloaded. This problem is called grid congestion.
Grid congestion is a challenge we’re tackling together. Although this is a regional and national issue that the municipality cannot solve on its own, we’re doing everything we can to limit the impact on Geldrop-Mierlo. Together with Enexis, TenneT, the Eindhoven Metropolitan Region, the province of North Brabant, and the national government, we are working on expanding the power grid as well as on smart local solutions, such as energy hubs, energy storage, and flexible energy use.
Our residents also play an important role in this. By working together to use energy wisely and reduce peak demand, we are building a future-proof energy system step by step.
Draft Sequence List
Through the draft priority list (divided into a list for Geldrop and a list for Mierlo), Geldrop-Mierlo aims to give all housing projects and schools in our municipality a clear starting point as soon as transmission capacity becomes available at Enexis.
This is how we ensure that housing construction and economic development can continue as much as possible.
Developers who wanted their projects to be considered for this priority list had until September 1, 2026, to submit their projects to the municipality.
Policy Guidelines
The municipality has now evaluated all the projects submitted and determined whether each applicant qualifies for inclusion on this list and where the submission will be ranked. This was done in accordance with policy guidelines previously established by the Municipal Executive of Geldrop-Mierlo.
If projects were ranked equally under the policy guidelines, the final order was determined by a lottery conducted by a notary.
Submitting a project or having a high ranking on the list does not guarantee transmission capacity. Enexis has the final say on the allocation of capacity.

File an objection
Applicants for projects on the draft ranking list(s) may file a substantiated objection to their position onthe draft ranking list(s) through September 21, 2026.
You can do this by sending an email tonetcongestie@geldrop-mierlo.nl
An objection must include, at a minimum:
- name of the project developer
- project name
- description of the parts against which the objection is directed
- reasons for the objection
- and any supporting documents
After reviewing all objections, the municipality will finalize the priority list. Starting October 1, 2026, the municipality will submit the priority list to the grid operator Enexis.
New initiatives that may not be widely known yet
The draft priority list may include housing development initiatives that are not yet known to the public. This is because the list is intended to allocate a spot to projects in a timely manner as soon as transmission capacity becomes available on the power grid. Inclusion on the list does not mean that a project is already finalized or that the decision-making process has been completed.
Every housing development project follows the standard procedures. Once a project reaches that stage, nearby residents are informed and given the opportunity to contribute their ideas or provide feedback in accordance with the applicable participation and decision-making procedures.
