Verification of Issued Travel Documents
Damage has been discovered on one of our scanners at the Civil Affairs counter that may be visible on the passport photo of certain travel documents applied for between June 2 and September 24, 2026. Although the documents are technically in perfect order, we would like to review all of them to ensure that there is no reason to doubt their authenticity at any time.
On October 26, we sent a personal letter to all affected residents. In this letter, we invited them to visit us during one of our walk-in sessions. During the walk-in session, we will assess whether the passport photo on the document meets all requirements. If the check reveals that the passport photo is not in order, a new application can be submitted immediately. There is no cost associated with this.
Which documents are we talking about?
This concerns documents requested from us using the relevant scanning device between June 2 and September 24, 2026. Due to damage to the scanning plate, a thin line may be visible on the passport photo. On some documents, the line is clearly visible, while on others, no abnormality is visible. To ensure that the authenticity of the document is never called into question, we are replacing all documents on which the abnormality is visible as a precautionary measure.
Why an audit?
Any discrepancies in your passport photo may raise questions during (border) checks, whether in the Netherlands or abroad. To avoid any problems while traveling, we invite you to have us check your document.
When?
We have invited the residents concerned to stop by during one of our drop-in sessions. We understand if the proposed drop-in session doesn’t fit well into your schedule. You can see the dates and times of the other drop-in sessions in the list below. We look forward to seeing you at one of these sessions. If you are unable to attend any of the drop-in sessions, please contact us by phone at 040 2893893. We’ll be happy to schedule another time with you.
