Undermining crime action day
Empty stables and sheds, a low chance of being caught and farmers in a vulnerable financial position make the countryside increasingly attractive to criminals. Research by ZLTO shows that 1 in 5 agricultural entrepreneurs have been approached by criminals. However, the willingness to report this is still low. Therefore, this week the Dommelstroom Intervention Team (DIT) visited several locations in the outskirts of Mierlo. Talks were held with owners about how to keep criminals out of the outlying area. The responses were surprisingly positive. It was indicated that they think it is good that attention is being paid to the problem of undermining crime in the outlying area.
Why an action day?
(Agricultural) entrepreneurs are usually quite resilient; they are not easily seduced by the "quick" money. At the same time, it is known that some farmers have water on their lips. It has been shown that (preventive) talks and checks from the government are appreciated; they are helpful in saying 'no' to criminal offers. We will therefore organize such action days more often.
What can you do?
Do you see something suspicious or do you suspect crime in your area? Then report this to the police Brabant Zuidoost at 0900-8844 or to the municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo. Would you like to report anonymously? Then you can go to www.meldmisdaadanoniem.nl or call 0800 - 7000. Anonymous reports go directly to the municipality and can be used for investigation or a check by the DIT.
