City Council Takes First Step Toward a New Environmental Plan
The city council has adopted the environmental plan for the Genoenhuis subarea. With this decision, the municipality is taking an important first step toward a single new environmental plan for the entire Geldrop-Mierlo area.
The Environmental Plan sets out the rules governing the physical living environment, such as housing, construction, businesses, roads, green spaces, and water. It is gradually replacing the current zoning plans and other regulations. By January 1, 2032, at the latest, every municipality must have a single new Environmental Plan. Geldrop-Mierlo will be working on this area by area over the coming years.
What does this mean for Genoenhuis?
For residents and business owners, little is changing at this time. The existing rules and rights remain in effect, and no new spatial developments will be permitted. The amendment primarily ensures that the existing rules have been adapted to the new structure of the Omgevingswet. This makes them clearer and easier to access via the Digital System Omgevingswet DSO). The first amendment applies to the Genoenhuis residential area, the businesses on the west side of Emopad and Amroth, and the De Smelen recreational area.
What happens next?
The municipality will continue to work on the new environmental plan in the coming years. The next step is to implement the regulations for the remaining residential neighborhoods in Geldrop and Mierlo, with the exception of Luchen. This will result, step by step, in a single, up-to-date, and clear environmental plan for the entire municipality.
