Requirements transportation
Not every child is entitled to pupil transport. To determine whether your child is eligible for pupil transport, the municipality tests your child's situation. It does this on the basis of, among other things:
- Test the distance between your child's home and the nearest accessible school. Care facilities and day care are not included.
- Travel time.
- We look at the possibilities assuming your child's independence.
Nearest accessible school
When it comes to school transportation, we base our decision on the nearest accessible school for your child. This is the school that offers the right support and appropriate education and is also closest to your home.
You are free to choose a school for your child. Please note, however, that you are not automatically entitled to transportation if you choose a school that is farther away than the nearest accessible school.
If the nearest school is not an option for your child—for example, because the school cannot provide the necessary support or no longer has any openings—we ask that you provide proof of this. You can do so by including a letter or email from the school or schools in question.
It is important for us to know why your child cannot be admitted. If it turns out that the school is accessible after all, this may affect our decision. For example, we may then reject your application or only grant a mileage allowance to the nearest accessible school.
Conduct in the cab
There may be times when your child or another child behaves in a way that causes problems in the taxi. If this happens frequently, the taxi company will discuss the matter with the parents.
Parents are responsible for their child’s behavior. We therefore expect parents to address this issue with their child and work with us to find a solution. In some situations, the transportation provider may ask that parents accompany their child during the trip.
If the behavior does not improve and appropriate assistance is not provided, taxi service may be discontinued as a last resort.
Of course, we try to avoid this as much as possible by discussing the matter with parents. You may then be eligible for a different type of reimbursement, such as a mileage allowance that allows you to drive your child to school yourself.
