Will you be the successor to Children’s Mayor Irene Roy?

Are you in 6th grade and moving up to 7th grade next school year? Do you enjoy speaking in front of a group and standing up for others’ opinions? Then we’re looking for you!

Apply by June 14 to become the children’s mayor of Geldrop-Mierlo atkinderburgemeester@geldrop-mierlo.nl. Together with Mayor Jos van Bree and Alderman Sanders, you’ll attend events and activities, work on your own project, and help brainstorm solutions for various issues.

How do I sign up?

Got excited? Then introduce yourself in a short video we are very curious about:

  • Who you are;
  • What school you are in;
  • What your mission will be;
  • What good ideas you have,
  • What you would like to change within our congregation.  

What does a children's mayor do?

  • Standing up for the interests of all children from Geldrop-Mierlo;
  • Opening of buildings and events such as Wooly Winter Weeks, New Year's Meeting and Youth Holiday Week;
  • Entry of St. Nicholas;
  • Participate in Brabant's Children's Mayor Day

Opportunity to highlight topics and themes of your own;

How to proceed? 

  • Children can apply from May 11 through June 14, 2026
  • During the week of June 15, the jury will select the winners from all the entries.
    The jury consists of:
    The mayor and Alderman
    The Youth Council
    Representatives from the city council
    Policy Advisor for Youth & Education
  • During the week of June 22, the Alderman and a municipal employee will interview the most suitable candidates.
  • The children's mayor will be sworn in on September 21, 2026, during a city council meeting.

From the municipality you will be guided so that you enjoy performing this role. We also expect some guidance from the parents. Every month we check together whether activities fit into your schedule and where support is needed.
