Our advice: fire as little as possible. If you do decide to fire, always check the Stookwijzer first and follow some tips to limit nuisance.

Before heating, always check the Stookwijzer

The Stookwijzer(www.stookwijzer.nu) shows whether code red or orange is in effect at your address:

• Red: no burning today.
  The smoke does not blow away due to little wind or poor air quality. Burning then causes additional nuisance and health complaints.
• Orange: rather not fire today.
  Conditions (for example, fog or windless weather) cause smoke to linger. This can cause nuisance and health problems.

Tips for responsible heating

• Use well-dried wood. Softwood (such as pine) should dry for about 1 year; hardwood (such as oak) for about 2.5 years. Do not use painted or treated wood, board or pressed logs.
• Health that your stove or fireplace is well maintained and the chimney clean.
• Light the fire from above: this ensures cleaner combustion.
• Be considerate of your neighbors: preferably fire at times when it causes less nuisance.

What does the congregation do?

With this campaign, we inform residents, monitor nuisance reports through the Stookwijzer, and examine
with residents the potential for additional regulations or enforcement, if necessary.
