Eight schools are taking on electronic waste

Eight teams from elementary schools in the municipalities of Eindhoven and Geldrop-Mierlo will be participating in the E-waste Race from March 16 through April 9. The project officially kicked off in our municipality with a festive launch event at St. Jozef Elementary School in Geldrop and a guest lecture on e-waste by Annelie Ninaber van Eijben of Race Against Waste. Students from ’t Klokhuis Elementary School are also participating in this race.

Over the next four weeks, students from both schools will be taking on the challenge of tackling electronic waste (e-waste). Their goal? To collect, reuse, and have as much small electronic waste repaired as possible. In this way, they’ll give old devices a second life and make a meaningful contribution to the circular economy!

Do you live near one of the participating schools in Geldrop? Then you can help! Between March 16 and April 9, students can pick up your small electronic devices from your home for free. Simply register your e-waste at: www.ewasterace.nl

E-waste includes broken or old devices that have a plug or a battery compartment, such as:

  • an old keyboard
  • a broken kettle
  • a broken cell phone
  • old cables and adapters

Please note: ink cartridges, loose batteries, and rechargeable batteries are not considered e-waste. If you can remove batteries from devices, please do so beforehand.

Why participate?

By recycling small electronic waste separately, you help prevent harmful substances from entering the environment and ensure that valuable raw materials can be reused.

Students earn points by collecting, repairing, and reusing devices. The school with the most points wins a fully funded field trip!

The E-waste Race is made possible by the municipalities of Eindhoven and Geldrop-Mierlo. For more information, visit: www.ewasterace.nl
