Frequently asked questions about waste

On this page, you will find frequently asked questions about waste in our municipality.

Why do we need to separate waste?

By separating waste properly, materials can be reused. Think of plastic, paper, glass, and green waste. This means that fewer raw materials need to be extracted and less residual waste is incinerated. This is better for the environment and helps to keep the costs of waste processing as low as possible.

Why does the municipality work with Diftar?

With Diftar, you pay partly for the amount of waste you put out. Those who have less residual waste and separate their waste properly pay less. This system encourages waste separation and helps to reduce the amount of residual waste in the municipality.

Who is responsible for collecting waste?

The municipality determines the policy and rules for waste collection. The practical implementation—such as collecting waste, managing containers, and answering questions—is carried out by Cure Afvalbeheer.

Why do I pay waste collection tax?

Every municipality in the Netherlands is required to collect and process household waste. The costs for this are paid via the waste collection tax. This amount consists of a fixed part and a variable part that depends on how often you put out your waste.

Where can I see when my waste will be collected?

In the digital waste calendar at www.mijnafvalwijzer.nl. You can also download the Cure Afval app. The app shows you when different types of waste are collected and allows you to set reminders.

What should I do if my trash has not been collected?

Report this within two business days using the report form on the Cure Afvalbeheer website. This will allow us to investigate what went wrong and find a solution.

What should I do with waste that is not allowed in the container?

Waste that does not belong in regular household waste, such as bulky waste, chemical waste, or construction waste, can be taken to the recycling center. On the page about the recycling center, you can read what waste you can drop off there.

What happens to the waste after it has been collected?

The waste is transported to various processing sites, where it is sorted and recycled as much as possible. Residual waste that cannot be reused is incinerated, generating energy in the process.

Where can I go with questions or complaints about waste collection?

For questions about containers, collection days, underground containers, or reports about waste collection, please contac, at Cure Afvalbeheer.

Why do I have to pay to have my container emptied?

In our municipality, residents pay partly for the amount of waste they dispose of. We call this Diftar. The aim is to improve waste separation and reduce the amount of residual waste. Those who dispose of less residual waste therefore pay less.

What happens if my container is too heavy?

Containers may weigh a maximum of 70 kilograms. If a container is too heavy, the garbage truck cannot empty it safely. In that case, the container will remain where it is and you will have to put the waste out again on the next collection day.

Why is it not allowed to leave waste next to the container?

Waste left next to the container can cause litter on the street, attract pests, and create dangerous situations. Only waste that fits in the container and is presented with the lid closed will be collected.

What should I do if my container is broken?

Please contact Cure Waste Management customer service at. They can repair or replace the container.

Can I request a different size container?

Yes, that is possible. For example, if your household grows or shrinks. Please contact Cure Waste Management for this. A fee may be charged for exchanging a container.

What should I do if my municipal card is lost or damaged?

Please contact Cure Waste Management. They can request a new card for you. A fee may be charged for a replacement card.

Can someone else use my municipal card?

The municipal card belongs to a residence and is intended for the residents of that address. The card is used to register waste collection requests.

What should I do if an underground container is full?

If possible, use another container nearby. Do not leave waste next to the container. Report a full or broken container via the BuitenBeter app or to Cure Afvalbeheer customer service.

Why are there rules about how I should place my container?

The rules help to ensure that collection is carried out safely and efficiently. If containers are positioned correctly, the garbage truck can empty them more quickly and safely.

What happens if I separate waste incorrectly?

Waste that is incorrectly separated often cannot be recycled properly. In some cases, a container cannot be emptied or a warning may be issued.

Why are paper and PBD collected separately?

Paper, plastic, cans, and beverage cartons are valuable raw materials. By collecting them separately, they can be recycled and reused for new products.

What can I do about litter in my neighborhood?
