For stormwater drainage in Genoen House, large crossing well will be installed

On Jan. 22, a telescopic crane was used to lift a so-called "crossing well" into the intersection of Tolkien Avenue. It weighs 27 tons and has to be lifted into the ground with a 200-ton mobile telescopic crane. This is spectacular in the middle of the residential area!

Blue Vein Plan

The construction of the stormwater sewer in the Aragorn is one of the established Blue Vein projects The Blue Vein Plan aims to provide a vision and concrete optimization for the redistribution of stormwater within our municipality. We do this by disconnecting stormwater from the mixed sewer system and increasing diameters of sewer pipes. The aim is to minimize flooding during heavy rainfall and maintain the quality of the living environment.

Work

In October, contractor Van Gelder began work on this Blue Vein project in Pool Road. Meanwhile, after several months, we have arrived with the around 1000mm pipe at the Aragorn - Laan van Tolkien intersection. In order to pass the existing sewer in the Avenue of Tolkien, we have to use a so-called "crossing manhole" in the middle of the intersection. Because the stormwater sewer is so large, the crossing manhole will also be large.
